Discussion on extracting features from one video to the next

Hello,

Problem Background: I have two avi video files of 20 seconds: First file is bit dark but shows details in bright areas. Second file is bright and shows details but tends to loose details within bright areas.

Problem Statement: I want to basically make a third video which contains the bright area from the first video and surrounding area of second video. Could this be done in MATLAB?

My Thoughts: I was thinking to compute the characteristic curve of both the video but I really don't know how to proceed with it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
