How to replace manually selected part of the image with background color?

I am facing an issue with having some particles messing up my image analysis. I would like to manually select and erase them before I continue with the analysis, is this possible? The image is displayed on Axes component.

Yes. See my attached freehand masking app, which you can modify or integrate into your code.
