How to protect mfiles and functions in matlab with password?

I use Spreadsheet Link to connect Excel with Matlab. Matlab gets a large input data from Excel, run lots of commandas in several mfiles (or scripts) and functions and then send the results back in Excel.

I creat a calculation button in Excel with VBA. I want user just click the button to get the results in excel. How to protect mfiles and functions in matlab with password?

What is the relation between the last sentence and the statements before? What should be protected: The ability to read, run or copy the code? What is the needed protection level?

The relation is they just access to excel and cant open or manually edit the scripts and functions that connected to excel.

What should be protected: the ability to open and see the codes and edit them.

Excel uses this codes to run the calculations. Inputs (from excel to matlab) are on one sheet. Outputs (from matlab to excel) are on another sheet.

pcode might provide this protection. If it is possible to combine with the app-programming I have not checked.

Compiled Matlab applications cannot be read or modified by users. The protection level is limited, but higher than P-coding.

I should use a GUI or AppDesigner to execute my mfile. How could be possible to use an mfile in a standalone application without installing MATLAB (and just using Matlab Runtime)?
