How can I detect that the Matlab Component Runtime is crashed? And what to do about it?

I'm using 2012a, 2014b, and 2015a but not in the same projects in Java Webapplications. Say the Matlab Component Runtime crashes, what can be done about it from code? How can I detect that the runtime is crashed? How can I restart it? Can I detect somehow that the runtime is running?
