Matlab loads and runs however Simulink does not

I have a trial version of R2015A on a Windows 7, 64 bit machine.
I can open and run Matlab. When I try to bring up Simulink however it does not load.
Has anyone else encountered this error?
I have set the MATLAB_JAVA environment variable to the Matlab Java install. This is downlevel from the Java I have installed for non-Matlab programs.
