You do not give a context so we do not know if it is an installation error.
When you save your own files in MATLAB, you have to do so in a directory that is not under your MATLAB installation directory. If you have clicked on the icon to start MATLAB it is possible that your default directory is set there due to the way that MS Windows starts up executables. In that case you can right-click on the icon and set the properties so that the Startup Directory is a directory more convenient for you.
Not being able to save your own files under the directory they name is an MS Windows security measure (imposed by Microsoft) in effect for later versions of Windows Vista (I think) and for all of Windows 7 and Windows 8. You can use "cd" to change directories.
