I did but its does not give the magnitude and phase spectra!

There is nothing to figure out for freqs. All you have to do is to give it the ‘b’ and ‘a’ vectors of your filter in that order, and either the number of frequency points you want it evaluated at (scalar) or a vector of radian frequencies.
