Loading ECG .dat file into matlab

Hello,
I want to load ECG data which consist s0010_re.dat file name.
I want to load into a variabl ECG_wave=load('s0010_re.dat')
>> ECG_wave=load('s0010_re.dat')
??? Error using ==> load
Unknown text on line number 1 of ASCII file
C:\Users\Raviteja\Documents\MATLAB\s0010_re.dat
"þ6þ".
What is this error?
What I have to do to load this file.

This is a binary file, so you would need to use low-level functions such as fopen, fread, and fclose to get the data into MATLAB.
Even though FREAD will read in numeric data, it is important to understand how the data is encoded, or else the data you read in may not make sense.
