Linking Simplorer and Simulink?

Hello,
I'm using the instructions that Georg gave for linking Simulink and Simplorer: https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/160102-how-do-i-link-simplorer-to-simulink?s_tid=gn_loc_drop
However, at the end of his instructions Georg said, "There are a couple of more things you need to take care of, like simulation times and solvers."
Could anyone please clarify what needs to be done with the simulation times/solvers? Should the time step and solver be set to be the same in both Simplorer and Simulink, or does something different need to be done?
(I am able to successfully link Simplorer and Simulink and run from either Simplorer or Simulink without getting any errors. However, the value being read in Simplorer from Simulink is coming out as all zeros. I'm thinking this might be happening due to a problem with the time step synchronization.)
Thank you,
Kevin
