How to smooth a picture histogram

Hello,

I have a project at school which the goal is to detect a car with a camera by detecting it color.

For this i use a webcam in RGB and i smooth the histogram with this algorithm :

function y = fcn(u) y= u

for j=1:150 for i=2:255 y(i)=(u(i-1)+u(i)+u(i+1))/3 end end y(1)=y(2); y(256)=y(255);

But my first for is too long and i don't know how to optimize this.
