No problem (I don't think). Just double click MCRInstaller.exe to install the 7.16 MCR. It should happily coexist with full blown MATLAB 7.10 on the same computer.

Note that MATLAB 7.10 is R2010a, but MCR 7.16 corresponds to R2011b.
The person who is providing you with the application built with the R2011b MATLAB Compiler is responsible for providing you with a copy of MCRInstaller.exe . The following technical solution gives information about where they should look on their machine to find that .exe: http://www.mathworks.com/support/solutions/en/data/1-1U18PL/index.html?product=CO&solution=1-1U18PL
Copy the provided MCRInstaller.exe to your machine, and execute it as Administrator on your machine (possibly by right-clicking on the .exe and asking to run it as administrator.)
