It is possible to authenticate for Viewing, Simulation, Code Generation and Modification.
Or check the doc in your installation by using the following commands:
>> doc Simulink.ModelReference.ProtectedModel.setPasswordForCodeGeneration%Add or provide encryption password for code generation from protected model
>> doc Simulink.ModelReference.ProtectedModel.setPasswordForModify%Add or provide password for modifying protected model
>> doc Simulink.ModelReference.ProtectedModel.setPasswordForSimulation%Add or provide encryption password for simulation of protected model
>> doc Simulink.ModelReference.ProtectedModel.setPasswordForView%Add or provide encryption password for read-only view of protected model
