how can we determine optimum threshold for Switch combining?

In Switched combining,out of multiple copies at antenna, the copy with SNR> optimum threshold will be selected. How can we find this optimum theshold?

I have simulated all the combining techniques on matlab..this is a modification of selection combining..but i am stuck at the logic building where optimum threshold comes to play..
