Alternative to imread of Image processing toolbox

Hi, Is there an alternative to read an image (i.e imread("image.jpg") without using the Image processing toolbox ? Thanks

imread is not from Image processing toolbox. You can find it in Matlab

Sure, if you want to write your own reader, which I've done for some special "raw" files. But if you have just regular image file, just use imread() - it's not in the Image Processing Toolbox. Type "imformats" on the command line to check for your file type.
