PHUGOID MOTION

Phugoid Motion refers to a type of oscillatory flight behavior typically observed in aircraft. It involves oscillations in altitude

You are now following this Submission

Phugoid motion is an important consideration in flight dynamics, particularly for aircraft stability analysis. While it generally doesn’t pose an immediate threat in terms of control loss, improper handling or failure to dampen the oscillations could lead to undesirable altitude and speed fluctuations. This is why phugoid behavior is taken into account during the design of the aircraft’s stability and control systems, including autopilots and stability augmentation systems.
