When a DC voltage is suddenly applied to a series RLC circuit, the current response depends on the natural damping of the system, determined by the values of resistance RRR, inductance LLL, and capacitance CCC. when the DC source is applied:
- The capacitor initially behaves like a short circuit.
- The current rises from zero, peaks, then decays exponentially.
