This method, usually known as microPIV (micro Particle Image Velocimetry) , uses pairs of images in its analysis. The first step is to define the number of ROI along x-axis and y-axis, for both the images in each pair being analyzed. Afterward, we perform cross correlation between the paired ROI, in order to measure the flow velocity, which is deduced from the displacements of tracer particles along the x- and y-axis. The resulting velocity vectors indicate the flow velocity distribution along the x- and y-axis within the microchannel.
