The local Rényi entropy of a given image is calculated in four equally spaced orientations and used to determine the parameters of the von Mises distribution of the image entropy. The von Mises distribution’s concentration parameter κ and its fitness parameter φ appear as suitable for defining image quality assessment measures in some particular image distortions such as Gaussian blur or additive Gaussian noise.
