Subject:

How can I install or activate manually on a computer without using the internet?

Problem Description:

The machines we want to install on cannot be activated over the Internet. I would like to know how to activate them manually without the internet.

Solution:

It is possible to install and activate MATLAB on a machine that cannot be activated over the Internet. This procedure involves 3 steps:

- Obtaining the machine's HostID.
- Activating your license through the License Center on a machine that is connected to the Internet.
- Performing an offline installation and activation using the File Installation Key and license file.

To install MATLAB on a machine that cannot activate over the Internet, follow the steps below:

Obtaining the HostID:
==========
If you already know your machine’s HostID, you can skip this step. Otherwise you can perform the following:

1) Start the installer and choose the installation option to do "Install manually without using the Internet" and click Next.
2) Accept the license agreement in the installer and click Next.
3) Select the option "I do not have the File Installation Key. Help me with these steps" and click Next.
4) On the next page you will be presented with all the information needed to activate.

Activating through the License Center:
==========
Once you have the HostID information, you will need to access the License Center through a machine that has an Internet connection. To access the License Center, you can navigate here:

https://www.mathworks.com/licensecenter/

If this is trial software, use the following link:
https://www.mathworks.com/licensecenter/trials/

Once you are in the License Center:

1) Select the row for your License in the list by clicking on it.
2) Once the license loads, click on the "Activation and Installation" tab.
3) Once that tab loads, click on the "Activate" button on the right.
4) Select "I have the HostID" and click Continue. Select your machine's Operating System and enter in the HostID of the machine (from the Installer) and press Continue.
5) You can then download the File Installation Key (FIK) and License file for your machine, or have these emailed to you. With these two items you will be able to perform the activation & installation.

Perform the offline installation & activation:
==========
To complete the installation:

1) Click Back in the installer until it prompts for the FIK, or restart the installer and choose "Install manually without using the Internet" once again.
2) Choose "I have the File Installation Key for my license:" and enter it in the field. Press Next to continue.
3) Choose Typical, hit Next
4) Enter the Destination folder and click Next. The installer will complete and ask you whether to launch the activation client. Choose to "Activate MATLAB" and click Next.
5) When the activation client starts, choose "Activate manually without using the Internet" and click Next.
6) Choose to "Enter the path to the license file" and browse to the file that was downloaded. If the file was emailed to you, save the file locally from the email point to that file. Press Next to continue.

At that point the activation will complete and you should be able to start MATLAB.
