Resolve Issues with Data Transfer

R2026b

Issue

Successful data transfer between your radio and host depends on the specifications and quality of your network connection. You can experience data transfer issues during the radio setup validation or later when you send or receive data. Issues can include:

  • The radio transmit and receive validation test fails. For example:

Data buffering timed out while transmitting waveform to the radio

  • Errors in the command window. For example:

RFnocError: OpTimeout: Control operations timed out waiting for ACK

  • Dropped samples when the host data transfer rate cannot keep up with radio.

Possible Solutions

Revalidate Radio Configuration

Return to the Radio Setup wizard and follow the instructions to revalidate your radio setup. If you encounter any issues, see Resolve Issues with Radio Setup Validation for possible solutions.

Configure Network Settings on Windows Host

On a Windows® host, the network adapter settings can affect the connectivity and performance of the network connection. To configure these settings to the recommended values, see Configure Network Settings on Windows Host.

Configure Network Settings on Linux Host

For information about the recommended settings on a Linux® host, see USRP Host Performance Tuning Tips and Tricks.

Configure Network Settings on Mac

On macOS, verify that the MTU is set correctly for your network connection:

  1. Open the System Settings app on your Mac.

  2. In the sidebar, click Network.

  3. Identify the entry that corresponds to the network adapter you are using to connect to your radio, then click Details.

  4. Select the Hardware tab.

The correct MTU value depends on the network connection.

  • For a 1 Gigabit connection, the MTU size should be set to 1500.

  • For a 10 Gigabit connection, the MTU size should be set to 9000.

To update the MTU size, in the Configure dropdown menu, select Manually.

Configure Frame Size for 1 Gigabit NIC

  • If the dialog box has a dropdown menu, select Standard (1500).

  • If you can enter a value, enter 1500.

Configure Frame Size for 10 Gigabit NIC

  • If the dialog box has a dropdown menu, select Jumbo (9000).

  • If you can enter a value, enter 9000.

Optimize or Upgrade Network Connection

  • If you are using a 1 Gigabit NIC, consider upgrading to a 10 Gigabit NIC.

  • If you are using a USB3/Ethernet adapter dongle:

    • If you are also using a laptop, connecting the laptop to a power supply can improve data transfer speed.

    • Connect the adapter directly to a USB port on the computer. Avoid connecting through a USB hub.

    • Consider trying a different model of adapter. USB-C adapters generally provide better throughput than USB-A adapters.

    • Consider having an additional NIC installed on your computer that you can use to connect to the radio.
