Why does MATLAB launch every time I edit my MATLAB files in version 7.4.0 (R2007a) on Windows?

I upgraded MATLAB to 7.4.0 (R2007a) and noticed that MATLAB automatically launches whenever I double click to open a ".m" file. However, I just want to look at or edit the ".m" file and not use MATLAB.

The ability to open files directly into MATLAB rather than into the MATLAB editor, as in previous versions, was an intentional addition to the product in version 7.4 (R2007a). For additonal information related to this capability, see the R2007a Release Notes at:
As a workaround to this issue, you can associate the MATLAB file ‘.m’ extension with the meditor.exe application rather than with MATLAB. This is accomplished through the Control Panel in Windows XP. See the Related Solution for details concerning the steps involved:
