Upgrading Matlab for RTL-SDR support

Hi, I currently own a R2012a student version of Matlab. I saw that the newest release, R2013b, has support for RTL-SDR dongles. My question is, is there a way to upgrade my current install to a version that will feature RTL-SDR compatibility? Do I have to buy a whole new license? Is there currently a Matlab student version that supports RTL-SDR dongles?

Student Version MATLAB cannot be updated; you would need to buy a new license.

The newest Student Version is R2013a.

I am finding mixed hints as to whether R2013a or R2013b is required to use SDR. Some of the entries in the File Exchange date from a year ago (before R2013a was officially released), but I see that version 1.0 of the SDR support package is for R2013b.

Student version for 14a will be available early March 2014. You can purchase an add on for Communications System Toolbox and use RTL-SDR support package.
