I am trying to set up a simulation of a bouncing ball for my students, yet my ball keeps passing through my floor how do I prevent this? I have attached my model
I'm assuming you have already put a sphere-to-plane block in your system. If you haven't then you must define a contact force between the plane and the sphere. Then double click on the Sphere to Plane Force block , set the contact stiffness parameter(under contact tab) to relatively high value(i.e.1e10N/m would be enough i guess).
Were you able to fix this? i used contact forces library but yet it passes through each other. I dont know what i did wrong. can anyone give me any tips for using contact forces library correctly. i followed the shere on table(plane) example?
If you use the contact forces library developped by steve.miller, the contact stiff and damp will affect the simulation a lot. Please adjust these two parameters according you model.
i tried adjusting. initially it floated upwards, and at some point (stiffness 10, damping 0.01) it stopped at going upwards but stayed at one place. if i reduced further it would accelerate downards(still pass through). so im stuck again. sphere to plane blocks radius is equl to the actual sphere radius. what i want is to ball to fall on to the plane and stop there
I am sorry to answer too late, the stiffness and damping you used (stiffness 10, damping 0.01) is still too small for the contact, in my opinion. See the doc in the readme. My email is toohzy@live.com.
i figured it out. the issue was not in the stiffness or damping. it was in the coordinate frame of planar surface. it was horizontal and the contacts were supposed to be vertical.
