writePosition resolution with Arduino

The 'writePosition' command with Arduino to control servo appears to have 1.8 degree resolution.
The position returned by 'readPosition' has an 18us step size, translate into 1.8 degree for an standard digital servo.
Why so? Is it possible to achieve more than 1.8 degree resolution?
