how to find variance and centre frequency

Can anyone tell how to find the following for an image
1)Variances along x and y-axes respectively
2)Centre frequencies along x and y-axes respectively

Variances can be found with var(). Use the dimension number parameter to change axes.
I do not know what you mean by "centre frequencies" in this context ?
