How to properly focus the image ?

I need to analyse specific parameters of this soot sample. I want to use an automatic algorithm. Unfortunately in the image there are focused and defocused areas, which is why the automatic algorithm doesn't work well. What would be the best function to properly focus the image?

Maybe try deconvlucy to deblur the image. Not sure how you'd identify blurry vs in-focus regions though.
