Texture segmentation with costumized gabor filters

Hei,

my task is to write a code in order to analyse satellite pictures with the help of gabor filters.

On the basis of a satellite image that I have as a reference (and the specific texture it contains) I want to design a gabor filter bank. The idea is that this filter bank can be applied to other satellite images to recognise the extent of a certain texture.

I am new to image processing with Matlab. So my questions are:

• Is this task possible with Matlab and the gabor filters?
• How can i extract features from my reference picture in order to feed my gabor filter bank? (so that the texture i want to analyse can be recognised on different input pictures)

Any answer would be incredibly helpful. I don´t have a huge background in this and i am not really making progress at the moment.
