Interfacing structure sensor with Matlab

3 views (last 30 days)
I was using Kinect with Matlab. Now i wish to replace Kinect with Structure sensor from Occipital. Can I directly interface Structure Sensor using the targetinstaller?
The Skanect software export scan from the Structure Sensor as an OBJ, PLY, STL, or VRML file.
Can Matlab be made to receive these file formats and process them?
Thank you for your help!
Regards,
Tejal

Were you able to make Structure Sensor work with MATLAB? I am kind of stuck at the same thought!

See the documentation on Connect MATLAB and Simulink to Hardware for details.
‘Occipital’ isn’t listed, so you will have to contact Occipital for details. The ‘Developer’ section doesn’t seem to have anything specific to MATLAB (I didn’t search thoroughly), so contact them to see how to interface your sensor to MATLAB.

My pleasure!
MATLAB has the advantage of being almost universal for engineering applications, so I would be surprised if Occipital doesn’t already have some way to connect their hardware to MATLAB, if not through their own interfaces, then others. Describe what you want to do, your machine and version of MATLAB (including toolboxes), and see what Occipital suggests. You might also mention that there are currently no Occipital support in MATLAB,
I inquired with TMW about Occipital hardware interfacing just now (citing the URL of this thread), so I leave it to you to follow up with Occipital. The important thing is that all the capabilities of the Occipital hardware be available through the MATLAB interface.
I have done some hardware interfacing with biomedical sensors and got them to to work, but not optimally (this was in R2009, so many things are possible. This (fingertip photoplethysmograpm) didn’t have a MATLAB interlace, so I had to go through the hardware guide (downloaded) and write my own software to acquire and display the signals. With luck, your task will be considerably easier.
