Can I include an ODE when I solve a system of PDEs in pdepe

Suppose I have a moving boundary problem and I have an ODE governing the length of the bounary I am interest in. Is it possible to include this into the pdepe function?

I only know Stefan's problem as a moving-boundary problem, and this problem is parabolic-elliptic. For this problem, pdepe works well.
But remembering the problems you posted in the past, I'm quite pessimistic about the suitability of the solver.
