recognize object in different photos

my project is to detect white flies in images the first step i did is to extract the white objects from the image what i need now is to recognize if this white object is the white fly or not what can i do to perform this task ??. i tried template matching but it didn't work because the two images i compare (the white object i extracted and a photo in the database)are not identical and any small difference make the recognition fail . please help me i don't have a long time , i have to finish very soon.
