Deactivate trial toolbox and reactivate on another machine?
Show older comments
I'm wondering if it's possible to deactivate the trial for a given package on one machine and then activate/install on another machine? I transitioned roles in my company during the 30 day trial and was given a new laptop which I now am currently unable to use the trial package on.

This is AI's answer under "Google":
To use a MATLAB toolbox trial on a new computer, you'll need to deactivate the trial on the old computer and then activate it on the new one. Trial licenses are typically tied to the specific computer they are installed on. You can manage your licenses through the MathWorks website.
Steps to Transfer a MATLAB Trial to a New Computer:
- 1. Deactivate on the old computer:
- Go to the MathWorks website and sign in to your account.
- Navigate to "My Account" and then "My Software".
- Locate the license for the trial and deactivate it, according to the MathWorks website.
2. Activate on the new computer:
- On the new computer, install MATLAB and the trial version of the toolbox.
- During the activation process, sign in to your MathWorks account.
- The system will recognize the license and activate it on the new computer.
Important Considerations:
- License Type: Trial licenses are generally tied to a specific machine, but you can sometimes request a network license for trials.
- Add-On Explorer: MATLAB's Add-On Explorer allows you to install toolboxes, apps, and hardware support packages.
- Installation Files: Make sure you have the correct installation files (.mltbx for toolboxes, .mlappinstall for apps, etc.).
- Matching Releases: Toolboxes must match the MATLAB release they are installed into.
- Administrative Privileges: You may need administrative or root privileges to install toolboxes.

AI generated answers have gotten surprsingly good over the last year. Not always fully accurate, but this one seems entirely logical. I don't know if that makes me happy or sad. Maybe both, at the same time.
