MATLAB and new macOS Tahoe 26: Blurry interface
Show older comments
Is anyone facing the same issue as me? I have recently updated to the new macOS and the MATLAB window is all blurry, with exception of the text editor... even the plots are looking weird

Please be as helpful as possible. What MATLAB release? While we know you have a Mac since you said macOS and Tahoe, which Mac?
Note that this exact same question was asked recently.
Did you contact Tech support at MathWorks?

Well, maybe it is not the interface that is blurry. Had your eyes checked recently?
You might as well try an install of the new release. Try it out. This takes only a few minutes to do. At least then you will know if R2025b makes you happy. And you can have multiple releases installed at the same time on one machine.
Note that I have posted export_search_path on the FEX to make that easier. You just open the old release, export the search path (into a file on your desktop. It also creates an m-file on the fly on your desktop called import_search_path.) Then open the new release, do an import_search_path. Then save the search path.
I've been watching these posts before I decide to up my Mac OS to Tahoe myself, so my interest is a selfish one. My rule has always been to let these things slide for at least 6 months though, to make sure all the problems have been found, reported, and I hope, resolved. ;-)

Long ago, in a galaxy far, dar away, I was employed by a multinational corporation that made little yellow boxes. Sometimes they even put stuff into those yellow boxes. We were all happy workers, working in a mainframe environment called TSO as I recall. And life was good. Then suddenly, we were informed that TSO was going to go away, and be replaced by CMS. We were all unhappy, because people generally hate change. Before long however, we did get accustomed to CMS, and life was again good, maybe even better than before. Well, we were happy at least until the next time we were faced with a new major change being pushed upon us. ;-)

Yeah, command window text is blurry/fuzzy for R2024b Apple Silicon on macos 26. Bummer. R2025a is sharp but I'm also not sure I like the look and feel.
Just saw the other thread where Java 11 is recommended, so I'll try that.

I was able to fix my blurry/fuzzy for R2024b Apple Silicon on macos 26 by doing the following:
1 - Downloading Java 11, Mathworks link: https://corretto.aws/downloads/latest/amazon-corretto-11-aarch64-macos-jdk.pkg
2 - then I used the following command in Matlab to use Java 11 jenv("/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/amazon-corretto-11.jdk/Contents/Home")

Thanks TerpGT - that (mostly) fixed the problem for me on R2023b. I then had an issue that Font size was out of sync between the command window end the editor, but that was easily solved by changing the zoom level in the editor
