Java Exception thrown when closing figures under linux with Matlab 2015a and 2014a

Hi,

I encounter with java exceptions when I just close matlab figures. The OS is Ubuntu 15.04 LTS with the OpenJDK Java 8 RTL.

I'd appreciate any idea on how to fix it.

the problem seems to disappear when matlab is called as super user, however, it would be better to have a real solution that gets to the bottom of it.

Hi Murat,

I understand that you are receiving Java exceptions when you close the figure windows.

From the stack trace that you have provided, it seems that this exception might be caused by the ‘jayatana’ package that comes installed by default on Ubuntu 15.04. It integrates Java Swing applications with Ubuntu’s global menu and HUD, and might be used by other applications as well.

The simplest way to get rid of these exceptions (without uninstalling the ‘jayatana’ package) would be to disable the JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS variable before you launch MATLAB. In order to avoid executing the following command every time you launch a MATLAB session, you can simply add it to your .bashrc or .zshrc as shown below:

unset JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS

Now if you restart your shell and re-launch MATLAB, this exception should not occur.
