Stem Function Coincidence, Plot Settings

Hey, I am new to matlab and I am struggling to solve this problem;

t = 0:0.1:0.5;
x = t;
stem(t,x)
hold on
t = 0.5:0.1:1;
y = 1-t;
stem(t,y)

on the graph where t=0.5 I can only see either f(x) or f(y), is there a way to see them both near by near where they correspond t=0.5, two line to their correspondings, thank you.
