When using an MATLAB Parallel Server on demand license, you must log in as someone who is listed as a Licensed End User on the license. Administrators will not be able to authenticate with their credentials. If the administrator also needs to use the cluster then they should also be added as a Licensed End User.
For instructions on adding a Licensed End User to a license, see this article:
How do I add or remove a Licensed End User to/from my license?
NOTE
: Starting in R2019a the following name changes occurred:
  • MATLAB Distributed Computing Server was renamed to MATLAB Parallel Server
  • mdce_def was renamed to mjs_def
  • mdce binary was renamed to mjs
