How to create our own template for ocr?

I have a set of images of "i"..I have to create my own template for OCR,for this I have to combine all the images of i and should get the average image of i of all images.How to do it?Please help me

First crop out all the i letters. Then resize them to the same pixel size, then add them to a double array

sum_i = zeros(rows, columns);
for k = 1 : numberOfIs
    this_i = imread(.....
    sum_i = sum_i + this_i
end
mean_i = sum_i / numberOfIs;
