Resolution of figure window

Hi, Is there any way to reduce the resolution in which MATLAB plots in the figure window? (I don't mean the resolution for printing an image).
I need to improve the performance of some animations.

Reduce the axes size. Or on some systems, you could choose a different "visual" (that is, you could reconfigure the graphics driver to lower the resolution.)
