VideoWriter text rendering issue

HI there
I've started using videowriter to produce a basic animation of 3D surface subplots. everything works fine in terms of producing an animation, however, the rendering of the text in the figures looks rubbish.
in my code i have:
myVideo=VideoWriter(outfile);
myVideo.Quality = 100;
myVideo.FrameRate = 4;
open(myVideo);
set(gca,'nextplot','replacechildren','visible','off');
set(gcf,'renderer','opengl');
for ii = 1:max
figure1=figure('Color',[1 1 1],'Position',[0.,0.,900.,900.]);
set(figure1,'DoubleBuffer','on')
get(figure1,'Position');
****do some stuff here to produce plots****
currFrame=getframe(gcf);
writeVideo(myVideo,currFrame);
end
close(myVideo);
From previous experience trying to render 3D surface plots with text, i have had to create 2 separate images; one with the surface plots (opengl) but with no axis, and the other plotting only the axis and title details with painters renderer. I would then recombine those eps files to create one file using epscombine.m
My question is how can i get the text to render nicely using the getframe i.e. not to look like as it does when it pops up as figure window?
am using version (R2011a)
thanks

Could you include some sample output of a plot that shows the text rendered poorly?
