Cannot activate MATLAB 2010a with my serial number

Hi, I downloaded an older version of MATLAB to run some software. When I downloaded the 2009a recommended by the developer, I got an error _"_There was an unexpected exception:
Can't load library: /Applications/MATLAB_R2009aSV.app//bin/maci64/libactivation,jnilib
See the log file (/var/folders/II/IITvHmCnEv8ZomsQaeMPZE+++Tl/-Tmp-/TMW_svact_jaminking.log) for more details.__ITALIC TEXT_"
A previous response to this problem said this was a 32 vs 64 bit problem and I would need to manually activate the license and download it to fix it. When trying to do this for 2009a on the website, it simply said "something went wrong" (?) without further clarification. I did the same for 2010a and it worked. But now I can't activate this 2010a because my serial/key number (I purchased 2016a) is longer than what you're supposed to input and it says it's wrong. *Where do I get a number for my license that will work to activate this older version?* You're supposedly able to download older student versions, but my serial number won't work. This is just another glitch in trying to fix *the original problem, which is to simply get 2009a to work (I hope 2010a will do the job).* Thanks!!

You're probably going to need to contact Technical Support using the Contact Us link in the upper-right corner of this page and work with them to determine the cause of the activation problem.
