How to find the maximum(single) value in an image

I wish to eliminate the pixels of and around the maximum pixel value of the image. How do i go about it? Please help.

First you identify the maximum value. Use the MAX command.
Then it depends what "eliminating" means, as you can't have a matrix whith holes it it :-) You may want to set those pixel values to e.g. zero.

"Of and around" the max - well that's the whole image. So just do
imageArray = zeros(size(imageArray));
