Chan-Vese Segmentation Parameters

For the 'activecontour' function with the Chan-Vese implementation, what do the 'ContractionBias' and 'SmoothFactor' terms refer to in the actual Chan-Vese paper? I'm fairly certain that the former represents the area term and the latter the curvature term, but I want to be sure (and can't check since the algorithm itself is encoded in a .p file. I'm also not sure if the area/curvature terms from the original paper are actually some functions of the 'ContractionBias' and 'SmoothFactor' terms.
