Adding GCC compiler to MATLAB 2016a on Mac OS Sierra

I have XCode 8 and Matlab 2016a installed on Mac OS Sierra.
When I run mex -setup it shows me the Clang compiler for both C and C++. However, I have installed GCC using macports, and I would like to use it with mex. How do I add it to the list of compilers?
