Is that importance to have orrientation termination and bifurcation of fingerprint or fingervein ?

i have extracted minutiae points from finger vein and i got only coordinates x and y . this minutiae extraction is addapted from minutiae points for fingerprint. in fingerprint minutiae extraction, people get the orrientation points. i tried to get orientation point in finger vein but still no result, and also i dont understand what is the function of extracting orientation point. is that important ?
