I use a 4k HD screen and have been using Matlab 2017a with application scaling turned on in the Windows options for the program. This used to keep the toolbars small and I would bump up any font sizes I wanted in Matlab preferences. This allowed me to view high detail graphical output and also I preferred the small toolbar look in the editor to concentrate on code.
However I loaded up Matlab today and some sort of inbuilt scaling is now happening which blows out all my outputs and toolbars. This can be overcome by turning the system scaling to 100% and using that but then all other applications are too small.
Is there an update I missed and is there a way to turn this scaling off in Matlab?

Which Windows OS are you using?
See if any of the following resolves your issue:
2) Disable display scaling for MATLAB
  • Right click on 'matlab.exe' icon and select "Properties".
  • On the "Compatibility" tab, put a check mark on "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".|
