Failure to initiate Matlab graphics
Show older comments
Hello, I am running MTEX on Matlab R2017b. I had to hard restart my computer because the program froze, but when I ran Matlab again I received this error:
Warning: Initializing MATLAB Graphics failed. This indicates a potentially serious problem in your MATLAB setup, which should be resolved as soon as possible. Error detected was: MATLAB:load:unableToReadMatFile Unable to read MAT-file C:\Users\sciencefordays\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2017b\matlabprefs.mat. File might be corrupt. > In hgrc (line 163) In initprefs (line 11) In matlabrc (line 124) Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks for your time!

According to the MTEX Instllation Guide (link), MATLAB versions R2010a through R2015b are supported.
I would contact MTEX Support (link) and possibly posting to the MTEX Forum (linked to through the MTEX Support link).

The error message looks clear:
Unable to read MAT-file
C:\Users\sciencefordays\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2017b\matlabprefs.mat.
File might be corrupt.
I speculate, that the file has been damaged during the installation process. So recreate it from your backup (maybe "recent versions" in the Windows Explorer?). Then try the installation process again. If it fails again, follow Star Strider's suggestion and contact the authors of the installed tool.
