Generate GPS signal in MATLAB?
Show older comments
Hi everything,
Is it possible to generate GPS signal in MATLAB? I know nothing about the signal structure of the GPS signal. Is there a GPS toolbox that can do this?
Once I get the IQ samples of the GPS signal, then I plan to actually transmit the signal over the air to a phone.
Thanks
Kevin

Do you mean you want to spoof a GPS signal? Or do you want to generate a GPS track? I'm not sure the former would even be legal.

Generating a GPS signal can be legal: placing a land-based GPS broadcast unit at a fixed location can help get higher resolution, which can be very useful in cases where precision is important, such as ship navigation in reefs, or in measuring land shift due to earthquakes or plate tectonics.
I have no idea what the process is to get an installation such as that approved, though.

Hi Kevin, did you manage to execute the GPS/GNSS spoofing algorithm? and conducted the experiement?

There is Satellite Communications Toolbox in MATLAB that supports GPS waveform generation, Receiver acquisition and tracking, and receiver position estimation simulation from a simulated GPS signal.
