How to generate a simple plane wave?

Hello,
I need to generate a simple plane wave moving in a certain direction. Using basic plane wave equation. I'm unable to define some of the constituents of the equation, which are;
- k-vector (direction/angle in/at which the wave is moving)
- r-vector (position of the wave in the local coordinate system)
- E-vector (Electric field vector which should be in x-y plane if the wave is moving in z-direction)
if above things are defined, i hope it will gather up to an equation for planeWave. However, if there is any alternate method to generate a plane wave, I'm open to suggestions. It's just above mentioned 3 vectors should be in my control or definable.
Looking forward to a helpful response, as it's my first time posting a question here.
As a reference, I'm using the equation below.
