matlab wont work on my mac OS x

hello all, i tried to download MatLab from my school website but for some reason it wont work on my mac OS X 10.11.6 El capitan
this is the Error massege i get. "You can’t open the application “Deploy-Application.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X".
can someone please help me!

hey john thank you! the school information sheet says that this version is compatible with my OS?
Then they probably have a link for the Mac download too. Just carefully hidden, I am sure. :)

Of course it won't run. :) You are trying to install the Windows version of MATLAB. There is a Mac OS X specific version that you need.
As well, you need to recognize that your OS version will not run the most recent version of MATLAB, thus R2018b. You can use only R2018a, or a few earlier releases, going back as far as R2015b. Anything earlier that that will also apparenty fail to run on your computer.
So you need to check if your site has the Mac version available for download. They should. Well, hopefully they will.
