Connect Canon 1100 D Camera on Matlab

Hi everybody I want to get images from my Canon 1100 D Camera on Matlab , but it seems a bit hard for me to do it . Any help ?

What is the format of the image? JPG, CR2, or something else? As I understand it the CR2 images from Canon are not raw, but partly "cooked", for example, they are already demosaiced and have had dead pixels removed, though that's just what we read online yesterday from some posts from high-end power users and I haven't verified it with Canon myself.
