Why do I get "You are not permitted to use this license" when trying to access my University license?

When I try to link my MathWorks Account to a license, or install and activate MATLAB, I see the message "You are not permitted to use this license" after inputting my university log-in credentials.

This message is shown when your university has not listed you as a valid user within the university's identity management system.

If you left the university

You are no longer permitted to use the university's license after you left but you can continue to use your MathWorks account by changing the email address associated with the account. Contact MathWorks customer support to do so.

If you think the message is shown by error

If you think you should have access to this license, please contact MathWorks customer support
Alternatively, contact your University IT department. Your account may be missing the required attributes in order to gain access to your license. Your IT department can map your account with the allowed values needed to access the MATLAB License.
